The Department for Communities and Local Government has approved the Compulsory Purchase Order for USS's Trinity Quarter development in Leeds.
The fund will now progress plans for the 300,000 sq ft covered shopping centre in the heart of the city centre.
Jones Lang LaSalle has now been appointed to secure a joint venture development partner for the development, which will create three levels of shopping, linking into Leeds' prime retail pitch. The scheme is set to open in 2009.
JLL director Stuart la Frenais said USS would be in a position to steal a march on Hammerson and Town Centre Securities' rival proposal for the city's Eastgate and Harewood Quarters.
