It's one of those deals where you wonder why it hadn't happened before, but Capital Shopping Centres' Potteries centre in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, has signed up to sponsor The Potters - or Stoke City FC to the uninitiated. Once one of England's top teams, Stoke is now mid-table in the Championship but a return to the top flight is by no means impossible.
The centre has become an official partner of the club and is the new sponsor of the family area at the team's Britannia Stadium. In return, the star players will be making appearances on the malls to greet fans and sign autographs.
Stoke City's commercial manager John Booth said: "Our family stand will now be known as the Potteries Shopping Centre Family Stand and we will further strengthen links by offering fans the chance to meet their favourite stars in an informal atmosphere."
