A thousand balloons were launched into the blue Ayrshire skies to celebrate the opening of Ayr Central, Henry Boot's £75m shopping centre in the heart of Ayr town centre.
The event was dedicated to the centre's chosen charity, the Scottish Spina Bifida Association, which offers practical and emotional support to the 3,000 Scottish families affected every year by spina bifida and hydrocephalus.
The charity's patron is chef Gordon Ramsay. He said: "When a child is first diagnosed it's a very emotional and stressful time for parents and other family members. SSBA provides families with desperately needed advice and support to help them come to terms with the initial situation that faces them, and to learn how to manage in the years ahead. I'm delighted that Ayr Central is working with me to support this charity."
