It's not often you spot the Queen on your CCTV, but Ken Ford, the eagle-eyed chief executive of The Mall, Blackburn, spotted Her Majesty nipping in for 20 Bensons and a barm cake. He dashed out of the management suite quickly enough to ask her to unveil a plaque to mark the refurbishment of the centre.
Ford explained: "We are honoured to have such a distinguished guest to help us celebrate this major investment in Blackburn. The plaque will take pride of place at The Mall when the redevelopment work is complete."
Later this year, The Mall will begin work on a £45m, 100,000 sq ft extension to the shopping centre, including 20 new stores and 300 new car parking spaces.
