For one night in May the Manchester Arndale was turned into an exclusive concert venue when Girls Aloud, Lemar and G4 all performed in the centre to an audience of just 200 lucky VIP winners. The winners entered the centre on a red carpet through a throng of paparazzi.
The concert was held to celebrate completion of the latest phase of the Arndale's £150m redevelopment, and to get hold of one of the limited VIP tickets, fans had to go online to http://www.manchesterarndale.com or visit the touchscreens in the centre and register their details. More than 12,000 people applied to obtain the free tickets.
Centre manager Glen Barkworth says the promotion was a roaring success: "Inviting these fantastic acts to perform is a way of saying thank you to shoppers for being so patient while we make their Manchester Arndale even better. Using the newly completed Exchange Court as a concert venue made this a really exciting, innovative and intimate event."
