The first branch of The Restaurant Group's Joe's Kitchen operation was our target unit this month. To the uninitiated it wasn't immediately clear how to use the unit but after a few minutes we were seated at a table of our choice and given menus.
The menu is very broad, offering a range of snacks, drinks and main course items. We selected tea and a Tiger beer, nasi goreng and a croque monsieur, reflecting the international flavour of the menu.
The beer and tea were delivered quickly and the two main course dishes arrived five minutes after, both having been freshly cooked. The croque monsieur was well executed with plenty of bread and filling, accompanied with a salad garnish. The nasi goreng was a bit of a let down, with an unauthentic taste and texture to the rice and a disappointing range of flavours.
We ended up with prawn crackers with the nasi goreng (totally inedible) and a side order of crackers (delicious), due to a little confusion on our part and the servers'.
The interior décor at Joe's Kitchen has been very well executed with lots of interesting details, making it suitable for every customer type. There were also lots of children and family-friendly items.
Overall, this meal was an interesting experience and it was clear from the business in the unit that its casual style and varied offer was appealing to Bromley customers. At £10 a head for a snack and a drink, plus the side order, I felt it was a little on the expensive side, but the service and environment were certainly worth it. All in all, Joe's Kitchen was a welcome change to most shopping centre cafes.
