CUSP and the Kennedy Group have scored a double coup at their Junction One site on Ballymena Road in Antrim. Asda has selected the site, already home to Ireland's biggest outlet mall, for its first new-build project. And Homebase has signed up for a DIY store. The two will anchor the leisure and retail park which is seen as complementary to the outlet mall.
A planning application is being prepared for a 55,000 sq ft Asda superstore with parking for 650 vehicles. The Wal-Mart subsidiary has been seeking new sites in Northern Ireland ever since it bought and refurbishment of 13 former Safeway stores across the province last year.
At the same time DIY retailer Homebase has signed up for a 25,000-sq ft store with a 12,500-sq ft garden centre, which is due to open in September 2006. Seasons Home & Living is doubling its floorspace at the park by taking a second unit of 18,000 sq ft. And restaurants Brewers Fayre and Red Panda are on schedule to open in June 2006.
CUSP projects director Philip Weir said: "The factory outlet's offer has been an excellent catalyst for growth across the whole 80-acre site."
