A flurry of lettings has boosted occupancy levels at Meadowhall at a time when voids are appearing in a number of shopping centres across the country. Virgin Megastore has signed for an 8,200 sq ft unit on the mall's lower level high street and Carphone Warehouse has opened its third branch in the centre, measuring 520 sq ft. Meanwhile fashion jeweller Red will open a shop in a 530 sq ft unit on the upper level of Meadowhall's Arcade.
There have also been a number of significant resitings as retailers increase their areas in the centre. WHSmith has relocated to an 18,000 sq ft store, River Island is also on the move and as part its new 18,000 sq ft space it will include one of its trademark mezzanines.
The activity is against a backdrop of enlargement that sees the mall entering the second phase of a three-year, £40m refurbishment. A 75,000 sq ft former Sainsbury's is also being redeveloped.
