Hammerson wins Merthyr consent

150,000-sq ft extension to Cyfarthfa Retail Park wins approval

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council has granted planning approval for Hammerson’s Ł30m extension at the Cyfarthfa Retail Park. The 150,000-sq ft project will bring Marks & Spencer’s first store to Merthyr, along with five other new stores.

Following the successful planning decision, the new Marks & Spencer could be open in summer 2014. The retail park, which Hammerson developed in 2005, is already home to Debenhams, Next, New Look, Arcadia and Costa Coffee.

There planning application also included improvements to the existing car park and local road network.
