Retailers at Merseyway shopping centre in Stockport, Greater Manchester, are seeing positive growth in sales figures with increases of up to 50 per cent in 2011.
The latest available trading figures from retailers showed that Office, Goldsmiths and The Fragrance Shop were among those enjoying a rise in sales.
The Merseyway store of Office reported an increase of 50 per cent on its sales total for 2010 and the store was the third best performing store out of 125 nationwide for the month of December.
The Fragrance Shop in Merseyway saw sales increase by 16 per cent whilst the Goldsmiths unit at the centre reported an increase of two per cent.
Centre footfall hit a record high of 10 million in 2011, and of the 104 units at Merseyway, 94 are occupied and of the 10 unoccupied units, six are in the hands of solicitors or under offer, leaving just four units empty.
Retailers at Merseyway said the increase in trading and overall popularity of the centre resulted from bricks and mortar investment and rebranding activity over the past two years. Some tenants also reported that the arrival of Primark in September 2011 helped to increase footfall to the record total.
Mark Rawstron, senior director of GVA Manchester and managing agent for Merseyway, said: “It’s fantastic to see investment in Merseyway paying off both in terms of visitor numbers and online activity. Providing a shopping centre that Stockport can be proud of is a key factor in the ongoing retail success of the town centre.”
Savills and Tushingham Moore are the letting agents for Merseyway shopping centre.
