Hartlepool’s Middleton Grange shopping centre has welcomed new anchor tenant BHS.
BHS has taken a 15-year lease occupying 35,000 sq ft at the heart of the centre, filling the void left by Woolworths, which closed in December 2008.
Middleton Grange organised a four-day programme of entertainment to welcome BHS at the end of January and a proactive social media campaign to entice visitors.
Footfall increased by 15 per cent for the launch weekend and has continued to rise against comparative periods last year.
Middleton Grange manager Mark Rycraft said: “We wanted to give BHS a special welcome and laid on a packed events programme backed up by a strong marketing and social media campaign.
“We are delighted with the footfall figures. There were an additional 5,000 people through the centre for the day of the launch compared to the previous day and those increases held up through the weekend.”
The arrival of BHS follows a £3m investment programme of refurbishment and capital works made by Middleton Grange’s owners, The Premium Property Group Limited (PPG) which has included improvements to car parks, signage, the new glazed shop-front for BHS and refurbishment of the centre’s toilets. Middleton Grange has over 100 retailers and 500,000 sq ft of lettable space.
