Legal & General Property unveils plans for St Stephens Place, Trowbridge
Published: 01 September, 2011
New plans for a cinema in Trowbridge town centre have been announced by Legal & General Property, owner of the St Stephens Place site and Castle Place Shopping Centre.
Proposals for the former Tesco site will create a new leisure destination for the town. The scheme includes six restaurants, a 60-bedroom hotel and an eight-screen cinema. 106 new car parking spaces are also proposed. The LGP scheme will form an intrinsic part of Trowbridge town centre so that the leisure development can support existing shops.
Simon Russian, head of retail development at LGP, said: "The people of Trowbridge have been promised a cinema in the town centre for several years and we are delighted to have made it the focus of our plans. We are already in the process of agreeing detailed terms with our cinema operator and have strong interest from hotel and restaurant occupiers who are very keen to locate in Trowbridge. Our proposals are also fully funded and are designed to respond to the needs of the town.
A planning application for St Stephens Place is expected to be submitted in October. Subject to planning approval, the scheme could be open in 2013. LGP will be outlining their plans to the Trowbridge Area Board on 8th September and anticipate holding a public exhibition in the autumn.
