Mill Gate draws ACE

X-Factor runner-up Rhydian Roberts pipped a galaxy of other Welsh stars to the post in a five-day contest to become the ‘face of Cardiff’. The poll, held at the Queens Arcade shopping centre, included names like Gareth David-Lloyd, Joe Calzaghe and Katherine Jenkins
Roberts has now become the subject of a unique photo-mosaic project which makes the Queens Arcade customers the foundation of the art itself. “From a distance the picture will be a striking brand new image of Rhydian,” explains the centre’s Lucy Thomas. “Then, as you look closer at the portrait, you will
see the image is made up of thousands of photos of our customers.”
Centre manager Mark Nott adds: “We are delighted at the number of people who voted and then the fantastic support we received from people coming to the centre to be photographed for the mosaic. We had around 3,000 people in front of the cameras and the mosaic contains over 15,000 images.”
The photo-mosaic is also online where customers can look for, and download, their own photos.
BCSC has unveiled the five winners of the 2009 ACE awards for outstanding customer service. Winners in the four size categories are: Westfield the Friary, Guildford; Mill Gate, Bury; Eastgate Shopping Centre, Basildon; and Westfield, Derby. From these category winners, Mill Gate, Bury, was selected as overall ACE winner.
Sponsored by Land Securities, the awards celebrate great examples of customer care within the shopping centre and retail destination industry.
Announcing the winners Jonathan Doughty, chair of BCSC’s Customer Care Committee and managing director of specialist food service Coverpoint, commented: “Good customer service plays a key part in creating an overall positive experience for shoppers, to attract and retain business in these challenging times. I was impressed and encouraged by many of this year’s entrants – enthusiasm and attention to detail is an essential part of excellent customer service, and this has been demonstrated by all of the winning centres.”
