Architectural awe at Trafford Centre's Barton Square
Published: 14 December, 2007
A new glazed bridge has been installed in an overnight operation to cross Barton Dock Road in Trafford, connecting The Trafford Centre to its new Barton Square development.
Gordon McKinnon, director of operations at The Trafford Centre, said: "The installation of the link bridge was a highly complex job and marked a piece of Trafford Centre history."
In a tense and highly skilled operation lasting four hours, the two 44-metre glazed sections were lifted around midnight and lowered into place. The bridge is in keeping with all Trafford Centre architecture, and had been roofed and glazed in advance. It represents a visually exceptional addition to the Centre and brings the Barton Square development close to completion.
