A birch wood for Burton

Published:  14 December, 2007

Coopers Square in Burton-on-Trent is the first shopping centre to have its own wood. The dedicated area, named as the Coopers Square Wood, is near the Conkers Visitor Centre in Moira, Derbyshire.

It has been planted with semi-mature silver birches with a themed wooden picnic bench and has all been funded through the recycling of cards, paper, bottles and cans via Coopers Square's 'Introduction to Recycling' campaign, launched in 2006.

Centre manager Dave Chadfield said: "It's fantastic to see this special wood officially open after a lot of hard work and fantastic public support. Coopers Square will continue to collect recyclable material to further our commitment to the local community and the environment. We would like as many of our customers as possible to visit and enjoy the area they have helped to create."
