Asda to police priority parking bays

Shoppers who abuse priority parking spaces at Asda supermarkets are to be fined £60. The retailer is piloting the scheme at seven stores in Merseyside but is planning to roll it out across the country.
Shoppers who park in disabled bays without displaying a blue badge will be fined, as will those using parent and baby spaces without young children. Town and City Parking has won the contract to enforce the parking rules and issue fines. It has already begun regular patrols at the trial stores and so far the feedback has been very good.
Paul Hedley, Asda's customer service manager, said the company needed to enforce its commitment to specialised parking bays. The decision is based on the commercial reality that if such bays are not managed, those customers for whom they are provided will shop elsewhere.
