Local heroes recognised by BCSC

BCSC marked the opening off its 2007 conference and retail showcase in Gateshead by presenting cheques for £12,500 each to two charities. Representatives from WaterAid and CLIC Sargent were both presented cheques by Alan Shearer, the former England and Newcastle football star, and BCSC chief executive Michael Green.

Also in attendance at the Local Heroes Tea Party, which was organised by the Newcastle Gateshead Initiative and Gateshead Council, were British Olympic athletes Brendan Foster and Jonathan Edwards.

Michael Green commented: "These are two great charities and they do amazing work in different parts of the world. The retail property industry is gathered here to learn not only about new retailer formats but to better understand the key role that shopping centres and retail destinations play as both economic and social hubs. We're delighted to be able to give something back to the community as part of our social commitment and engagement."
