All systems go

Exhibitors at this year's Parkex International launched a variety of new products at the show, which, for the second time, had joined up with Traffex and EWX External Works at the NEC Birmingham.
More than 12,300 visitors attended the exhibition over the course of three days in April, with 15 per cent international representation, exceeding the organisers' expectations. Across the Traffex and Parkex exhibitions, more than 350 exhibitors showcased their latest innovations.
Parkeon introduced a number of developments on its pay & display and pay-on-foot ranges, the most significant being an e-ticketing module within the Parkfolio centralised management platform that enables operators to integrate the administration and operation of a range of p&d and virtual parking payment schemes and enforcement systems.
This makes it possible, for example, for p&d terminals accepting cash and card payments to run in tandem with mobile phone payment and web-based permit schemes, and for all management and financial reports to be integrated.
Bob Barnes, Parkeon's UK geomarket director says: "The expanded Parkfolio solution gives operators the best of both worlds, enabling them to maintain their p&d infrastructure, while creating a platform on which the virtual parking solutions that are emerging can be added. It means that managers can keep their options open, knowing that however parking revenue collection evolves their systems are effectively future-proof."
Mabey Support Systems exhibited its new demountable car park solution. The system can provide either a temporary or permanent second deck to an existing car park.
Chris Carter from Mabey Support Systems says: "It could be useful for shopping centres over the Christmas period, from September to January, particularly if there is construction work going on, or it can be used as a permanent car park."
Meanwhile, at Traffex, TopDeck Parking launched a new temporary parking system that is a demountable, modular, steel parking deck that can be assembled in less than five days to provide 100 or more temporary parking spaces.
The TopDeck system, designed by Berry System and Hill Cannon, is available to rent or buy and features a number of design innovations that are subject to patent application.
Metric exhibited, for the first time, its recently launched Aura p&d machine, with a new 'help point' facility. Sales director Bill Laurie says: "It's got a very high level of security as there are no visual locks. It is all electric locking using a dallas key. It's got all the local communication options, such as GPRS and wifi and is 100 per cent DDA compliant."
Another launch came from Treatex, with a range of finishes for car parks and other concrete surfaces, offering first-class protection and dust-reducing properties as well as the option of enhancing surfaces through colour.
