Westfield Derby to open early

Westfield and Hermes, joint owners of Westfield Derby, have brought forward the opening day for the £340m redevelopment by six months. It will will now open on 9 October 2007.

Westfield Derby will position Derby as a principal retail destination in the East Midlands with over one million sq ft of space. The two anchors, Marks & Spencer and Debenhams, are well advanced on their fit-outs and Next has just taken possession of its 47,000 sq ft store. Other key tenants include Next, Zara, Bershka, Topshop, River Island, H&M, H&M Kids and Monsoon.

The centre is already over 90 per cent pre-let or in solicitors' hands and the latest deals include: Republic in 8,200 sq ft; F Hinds in 1,300 sq ft; Trade Secrets in 1,100 sq ft; Carphone Warehouse in 1,320 sq ft; Perfume Shop in 700 sq ft and Vodafone in 1,130 sq ft.

David Slade, leasing director at Westfield said: "This is a very exciting time for Derby, and retailer confidence in the future of shopping in the City is demonstrated by the incredibly successful leasing campaign."
