Regent's melting heart

Valentine's Day once again proved fertile ground for marketing managers across the country. Centre after centre was festooned with hearts and flowers, but some demonstrated genuine originality.

Regent Arcade in Cheltenham set hearts melting on Saturday 10 February when a replica of a diamond ring worth £1,500 was placed in a heart-shaped block of ice on the centre's lower mall.

One lucky Cheltenham shopper was able to take home the real diamond ring, donated by David Christopher Jewellers, on February 14. And all they had to do was guess how long it would take for the ice to melt and the ring to be freed.

The Potteries shopping centre in Hanley staged a 'Win Your Wedding' event over the weekend prior to the big day. Five couples competed over two days of gruelling his and hers challenges, and were awarded points for their creativity and correct answers.

Part of the prize fund was wedding dress and suit hire, cake, disco, car to and from the venue and the honeymoon.
