Food feedback

I was keen to show one of my colleagues the Brunswick Centre in Bloomsbury, the new Allied London mixed-use development, which contains a range of foodservice operations including Carluccio's, Strada and Giraffe, in addition to a Waitrose supermarket and retailers such as Hobbs, Coast and LK Bennett.

Time being fairly short, we opted for Yo! Sushi for our lunch, as the unit promised the quick turnaround that we required. Although it was only just past midday, the unit was about one-third full and we were quickly shown to a seat. My colleague, who had never visited a Yo! before, was given a thorough understanding of how easy it was to select and order from the wide range of dishes passing before our eyes on a conveyor belt.

I especially liked the red button located in the table top next to the condiments on offer, which could be used to attract staff to take additional orders if necessary.

We started with a bowl of Miso Soup at £1.75 each, which could be refilled as many times as we wanted. A couple of Kirin beers at £3.00 each complemented this. The day was uncommonly warm, so we opted for the chilled selection on the conveyor belt. Each dish is colour coded and the menu you are given clearly states the price of each coloured dish.

I opted for assorted fish, wrapped in rice and seaweed with a chilled Soba Noodle Salad at £7.00; my colleague preferred the simplicity of assorted Nigiri, which comprised of slices of prawn, tuna and salmon served on a sticky rice base. Small portions do not look filling, but I was content with my choice, although the chocolate brownies decorated with slices of strawberry had 'eat me' written all over them, so my colleague had to!

Overall, a different experience from some of the more traditional offers available at the Brunswick Centre and one that is obviously popular, as, after our swift lunch, the restaurant was filling rapidly.
