Clonmel scheme wins local votes

Published:  01 February, 2007

A controversial E40m scheme in the centre of Clonmel, Co Tipperary, has received overwhelming local support. A poll commissioned by the developer, the BORC Partnership, found only one per cent of local residents against its plans for a substantial shopping centre, a multi-storey car park with up to 500 spaces and an hotel on the Clonmel Arms Hotel site.

Last August, Tipperary South Riding county council approved the plan, but it is currently being appealed to An Bord Pleanala on the grounds that it will interfere with the nearby 17th century Main Guard building.
