The Marshes Centre in Dundalk is barely open a year but has won a coveted Tidy Towns award for its 'imaginative and amusing' visual impact and its retail harmony.
The centre received a regional landscape award and a prize of ?1,000 sponsored by the Tree Council of Ireland.
Adjudicators reported high praise for the centre stating that "the newcomer had impressed with well-laid landscape and good accessibility for both pedestrians and motorists".
Delighted centre manager Harry Traynor thought it must be a first for the shopping centre industry.
