Borders opens its first store in the Irish Republic at West End

Borders opened its first book, music and movie superstore in the Republic at West End in Blanchardstown on Friday 27 October.

The action-packed grand opening weekend began with a high-profile pre-opening party the night before the doors officially opened to customers, when a local schoolchild cut the ribbon.

Throughout the weekend, a series of events, including celebrity book signings by football legend Paul McGrath and bestselling novelist Cathy Kelly, children's readings and entertainment, and music from local jazz band Bop Five, ensured that the new Borders Blanchardstown store opened with a bang.

Borders Group chief executive officer George Jones said: "It is our company's mission to be the preferred place for knowledge and entertainment throughout the world.

"Our expansion into Ireland is part of achieving this mission and we thank the community for welcoming us with such enthusiasm.

"This new location will serve as a cultural centre, meeting the needs of a community that is rich in literary history and as passionate as we are about books and the importance of literacy worldwide."
