Dolphin's award-swimmers

Published:  13 September, 2006

Poole in Dorset is built on the world's second biggest natural harbour, after Sydney, so you're never far from water. For that reason alone it's important that kids there learn to swim.

The town's Dolphin shopping centre teamed up with the local Daily Echo to offer a free one-week course, Splash School, as part of a competition. The 50 winners gathered at the centre at the start of September for a graduation party to celebrate their success. All the graduates received a goodie bag, commemorative T-shirt and a certificate of achievement.

The initiative has been such a success that the Dolphin shopping centre and nearby Dolphin pool will be teaming up again to offer more free tuition, with another Splash School scheduled for the half-term holidays.
