Food anchor for Stockton-on-Tees

Published:  22 June, 2006

Plans have been unveiled for a multi million pound extension to Castlegate shopping centre in Stockton.

The £18m development plan will include a 60,000 sq ft supermarket with new multi-level roof car park.

It is anticipated that the extended centre will help draw shoppers back to the town centre. Ashley Blake, property director of Castlegate's asset management company Lathe Investment said: "Stockton town centre has long deserved a major food store as a retail anchor and, as part of the Southern Gateway proposal, we are planning to develop one within Castlegate. Following discussions with the council, we have applied for outline planning consent to build a 61,000sq ft foodstore." The store will link into the existing shopping mall.
