Metquarter in fruity frenzy

Published:  11 April, 2006

The recent opening of the Metquarter was the occasion for much rejoicing among Liverpool's style pundits, not least for the sudden abundance of designer labels that they have had to make the trip to Manchester to enjoy up to now.

But on the morning the centre was christened any pretence at decorous loft-living behaviour vanished when a van appeared outside the main door bearing the legend: "have you had your fruit2day?"

It seemed that large numbers of Metquarter's potential shoppers had not as they exited the centre in search of free two-packs of health-giving drinks packed with goodness.

A scrum developed outside as those handing out the freebies shouted "Calm down, calm down" at the developing melee. The supply did not last long.
