Junction revamp under way

£30m redevelopment begins at the Junction in Antrim, Northern Ireland

Construction of a new McDonald’s restaurant and drive-thru has begun and kick-starts the £30 million redevelopment at The Junction in Antrim, Northern Ireland. The multi-million-pound regeneration plans for the retail and leisure scheme began last month.

Lotus Property acquired the scheme in 2016 and received outline planning permission at the end of 2017. This expansion is just the start of the major plans to revitalise the Junction Northern Ireland’s largest shopping and leisure destination.

The new McDonald’s restaurant, opening in late 2018, and occupying 4,700 sq ft, will be the first operator in the new food zone outside the Omniplex at the centre.

Lotus Property asset and property management director, Alastair Coulson, said: “Phase one of our redevelopment is underway after a year of planning consultations and we couldn’t be happier. McDonald’s is a perfect complement to the retailer portfolio, leading the way for more restaurant offerings in the new food zone. It is great to see the Junction becoming the ultimate shopping and leisure destination we set out to create.”
