Medway Council’s planning committee approves 80,000-sq ft extension
Plans for five large new units and decked car park at Hempstead Valley shopping centre near Gillingham in Kent have been approved. The new stores will be built on part of the existing car park, and while a new parking deck will make up for some of the lost spaces there will be a net loss of 50 parking spaces.
The proposals were opposed by the Pentagon shopping centre in Chatham town centre and the Chatham town centre forum.
The 400,000-sq ft scheme is owned by the British Airways pension scheme and counts Argos, Bots, Sainsbury’s M&S and TK Maxx among its anchors.
