Carpetright closures revealed

Carpetright names 92 stores earmarked for closure

Troubled floor coverings retailer Carpetright has identified the 92 stores it plans to close under its proposed CVA. The list includes high-profile locations like Meadowhall and Parkhead Forge. Another 113 stores will be retained subject to rent cuts and new lease terms. Creditors and shareholders will be asked to approve the plan before the end of April 2018.

The move came as Knight Frank’ head of retail research Stephen Springham questioned the rationale for the move. “A strong, profitable market leader operating in a growing retail sub-sector with a strong balance sheet and minimal debt that is investing sensibly in its store portfolio and digital platform – hardly a distress story, so why the CVA?” he asked.
